The Inspiration Behind Our New Autumn Collection
When we think of autumn flowers, it’s easy to think immediately of orange.
But for our new Autumn Collection, we wanted to look beyond the obvious autumn colour palette and capture something much broader: the feeling of the season itself.
Autumn is one of the most textural times of year. Gardens become a little wilder, branches are heavy with berries, flowers begin to fade into softer, earthier shades and seed heads appear amongst changing foliage. There’s an abundance to it, but also an imperfection that we love — everything feels a little less manicured and a little more gathered from the landscape.
That became the inspiration behind this collection.
Autumn, beyond orange
There are certainly rich autumnal colours here. Deep reds, burgundies, warm pinks, peach and burnt orange appear throughout the collection, particularly in dahlias, hydrangeas and roses.
But autumn doesn't have to mean filling your home with orange and brown.
In our Best & Bloom research, 64% of respondents said they choose flowers to complement their home's décor. And that was something we kept coming back to when designing this collection. If flowers are part of how we decorate our homes, a seasonal collection needs to work with the interiors they're going into — and orange simply isn't for everyone.
So rather than defining autumn by colour alone, we looked at the other things that make the season so distinctive: berries, seed heads, branches, changing foliage and an abundance of different textures.
Some of our favourite arrangements in the collection are much softer. Cream hydrangeas, white ranunculus and alstroemeria sit alongside muted green foliage and sculptural seed heads. They feel autumnal not because of their colour, but because of their texture, shape and composition.
It’s the same reason a bowl of pears, a bundle of branches or dried seed heads can instantly make a room feel like autumn without containing a single orange leaf.
Berries, branches and seed heads
Foliage has always been important to the way we design our bouquets at Best & Bloom, but it plays an especially big role in this collection.
Rather than treating greenery as something that simply fills the gaps between flowers, we wanted it to become part of the character of each arrangement.
There are clusters of cotoneaster berries, blackberry stems, seeded branches, birch leaves, willow foliage, eucalyptus and delicate sprays of seeds woven amongst the flowers.
These are the details that give the bouquets that slightly wild, just-gathered quality we were looking for. They create movement and irregularity, breaking up the larger flower heads and making each arrangement feel more like something that could have been gathered from an abundant late-summer garden or autumn hedgerow.
Flowers at their richest
Autumn also gives us an excuse to embrace some wonderfully dramatic flowers.
Dahlias feature heavily throughout the collection, from smaller flower heads tucked amongst foliage to large statement blooms in deep red, cream and salmon pink. Hydrangeas bring volume and softness, while roses and peonies add layers of colour and romance.
We particularly love the combination of traditionally beautiful flowers with less polished elements — a perfect rose beside a branch of berries, or a generous hydrangea surrounded by leaves and seed heads.
That contrast is what stops the arrangements feeling too formal.
Designed to feel gathered, not arranged
The overall shape of the collection was just as important as the individual stems.
We wanted these bouquets to feel loose, abundant and a little untamed.
Some stems sit higher than others. Foliage reaches beyond the main body of the bouquet. Berries tumble outwards and branches interrupt the symmetry. There are moments of delicacy alongside much larger, blowsier flowers.
It’s an aesthetic that feels particularly right for autumn, when nature itself becomes more unruly.
And because these are artificial flowers, we can capture that fleeting moment of the year and keep it for as long as we like.
Bringing autumn into your home
Ultimately, the Autumn Collection isn't about decorating your home for autumn in an obvious or themed way.
It's about making the subtle shift that we naturally crave as the seasons change.
As the evenings become darker and we start spending more time indoors, interiors tend to become warmer and more layered. We reach for richer fabrics, softer lighting and deeper colours. Flowers and foliage can make that same transition.
Whether you choose an arrangement filled with deep reds and berries or something much softer in cream and green, each bouquet has been designed to bring a little of autumn's warmth, texture and wild abundance indoors.
Because sometimes autumn isn't a colour.
It's a feeling.
